Are you getting ready for a recession?
Getting ready for a recession does not mean you're bracing yourself for slow business, less income and less money in your pockets. Sure, your business can slow down, but the current issue is, what are you going to do about it?
The recession is like a tornado. When it comes and hits you, do you just stand there, and hope that you'll remain safe and still standing, being the brave one that you are, or does common sense tell you to instinctively protect yourself, run and seek shelter?
What BananaQ.com, MassagePeople.com, and our many other (more than 60) websites are saying is that there are mechanisms or methods that are in place, and logically doable, that might improve your chances.
Through the years, you have gotten to know the nature of your business to keep you going. You have your trade secrets. We would not want to know your business secrets and successful business practices. We do not want to let others know what they are. We do not want your methods to be duplicated by your competition.
What we are here to tell you is that we ask that you allow us to help you as well.
We want to let you know that we have a way to improve your business that even you will find hard to duplicate. If we let you know now, and you competition learns about this later, you will still be ahead.
If this were the 90's, you would see in the newspapers and television that the internet was the next frontier. We would have asked to design your website for you. We would have told you to register a catchy name, and have a website designed.
Have you heard of "DotMobi"?
BananaQ.com wants to share with you a new trend, and wants to take it to a competitive level so you will find us useful for your business. The new trend now is the BEGINNING of the burgeoning of mobile internet. In September 2006, ".mobi," or "dotMobi," was approved and added to the .com, .org, .net, .tv and .info as what is called a "top-level" domain, to be made specifically for users of cellphones and other mobile devices.
Because it is new, cellphone companies are only now slowly making their browsers automatically add the .mobi suffix when a user types in a website on a mobile device. Mobile units will add and search for .mobi websites first before looking for a .com.
The world remains in the early stage of development for dotmobi websites. There are currently three types of mobile devices - Feature Phones, Smart Phones and PDAs. Experts say that the difference between the three are slowly becoming blurred, as more and more features are becoming staples. Feature phones include the three normal cellphones- what people call the candy bar, the clamshell and the slider. They are the ones which typically have the numeric keypad with 12 buttons. Smart phones are like the feature phones, but they have more features, including the ability to run third-party applications and larger screens. PDAs nowadays are the ones which evolved from the PDAs of the 90s. They usually have a keyboard and a stylus, and are more geared for bigger organizational tasks rather than voice communication.
There is a fourth type, but we will not tackle this here. Voice only phones are phones which only have voice communication in them. These are the cheapest type of phones, which has a declining number of users.
Here is a current pie chart of the
market shares of the three devices:
Here are some more points you should know:
While PDAs and Smart Phones may already be offering internet access, you must also know that most feature phones are also already offering internet access.
The prices for internet access is decreasing and becoming more affordable.
Experts say that 1/3 of the entire world population has access to a mobile device. Experts also say that this will increase to 1/2 by 2010.
There are now 4 new mobile phones purchased for every 1 personal computer.
Go to the Yahoo home page right now. Yahoo has recently added "Mobile Web" on the left side of their home page, which lists Yahoo Services. They have made no big fuss about it - not yet, until they find a way to profit from it, but it's an acknowledgement of a new trend.
If you are currently using a mobile phone with internet access, you will notice that the homepages of Google and Yahoo (among countless others) are able to sense your device and provide you with information and a format that is more suited to the mobile device. The same thing happens with your carrier. They will simplify a website as best they can, but because websites are made for desktops and larger screens, most websites are not compatible with mobile units.
Have you ever attempted to show off your massage website on your cellphone, only to discover that your website is not showing up?
Whether your clients own a PDA, smart phone or feature phone, or whether you will conduct your own market study or not, the fact remains that you need to address the need to be seen in a dotmobi or mobile device-compatible website.
Some of your clients opened a magazine or a yellow pages ad at home or at the hotel or office and called you. Some of them sat in front of a computer, a desktop or a laptop, and saw your listing. Yes, that is your normal source of calls, but if you have noticed a decline in income, then you need to do some additional tweaks.
Your New Clients are in the Restaurants, Planes, Buses, Taxis and Department Stores
Forget WiFi coffee shops and portable laptops. There are some potential clients who are on board a plane, a taxi or a bus, or on a ship approaching a port, and they would also like to have access to contacts for massage. Some of them are at restaurants and they might want to call your number while waiting for their meals to come. There are many more scenarios in everyday life that is even better than that one single scenario of people with their laptops who are seated in a coffee shop that offers WiFi.
What DotMobi features that is not on Desktops and Laptops
Whether you feel you want to build your own dotmobi or not, you should know two main features that dotmobi web pages can be programmed to do.
Accesskeys. Similar to tabbing on a keyboard, the mobile internet programming option called "accesskeys" provide a quick navigation to the next chosen page. Given 10 hyperlinks on a page, and numbered 1 to 9 and 0, a user can just press a number on his or her numeric keypad to automatically proceed to the next page.
Automatic Dialing. A phone number can be programmed by the web designer like a hyperlink. When a user navigates to the hyperlink that is a phone number, and presses OK, the number automatically gets dialed. A user also has the option to save your phone number on the mobile device in just a few steps, without the need to use a pen and paper first.
Other Internet Trends you probably have not used yet
Just as late as two years ago, there were two buzzwords on the internet. One is SEO or Search Engine Optimization, and the other is Blogging.
SEO, is when you "tweak" your website, so that the search engine ranks you better when people search the internet and type in relevant terms on the search box.
Blogging, on the other hand, is a time-consuming activity, that only a few become dedicated to doing it. When people blog, they write on a regular basis, thereby updating their websites more occasionally than regular, static or even the dynamic websites. There are mechanisms in the blogging program that constantly reminds Google and other search engines that their sites are ready again for yet another indexing. Because the search engines compete and are always trying to provide the latest information to the public, blogging is a good way to be seen.
A third trend is that search engines also have begun to charge for Ad Placements. You will notice that search results feature free search results and paid advertisement that might also be relevant to the search. These advertisements are there based on the "bids" of advertisers. A paid lister balances two main factors when bidding to show up in a potential customer's search results page. The cap of how much he or she is willing to spend in a month, and the price per showing up on the page, and getting clicked by the internet user. A paid lister can "bid" paying up to, for example, 10 cents per click to his website, for a maximum of $50 a month. This means that he is hoping to be seen and visited 500 times during the month, and when Google has charged him up to the cap of $50, Google stops listing his link on any further search results for the month. The cycle begins again the next month. However, if many others bid 11 cents, then Google would not even bother to list his ad until all the 11 cent bids have run out.
Google has also dominated the market for placing ads in other people's web pages, where Google would place ads that would seem relevant to the website or page.
If you have not used the above mechanisms for your business, you might want to try using them.
What we have to offer
We would like to offer you three things that you expect us to provide, and a fourth big offer for one single subscription price. While we do not hold the holy grail for the success of your massage business, we do offer convenience and more features for your money. We want to provide the public with an extensive listing of massage professionals that is accessible through their cellphones.
1. We would like to list your massage business in directory form. The public comes to our dotmobi websites, and clicks to your city and finds a listing of professionals. If you chose to provide your phone number, all the client has to do is click ok and your number will be dialed automatically.
2. We also want to provide the client with your short, or even long profile. After seeing your listing together with other massage professionals in your area, we want the client to have more information about you, in your profile page or pages. We want to please you as well. We will provide as little or more information about your business as you wish. The only restriction is that we do not allow nude or naked pictures in our servers, and that we encourage face pics because the pictures have are limited to the size of thumbnails.
3. We will program your profiles and listings and shrink your pictures to meet the requirements of the dotmobi, as long as it sits in our servers and continues to be listed in our directory listings.
4. We have more than 60 domains to help you get seen. While all of the above can pertain to just one website of ours, we want to include your information in our numerous massage dotcoms and dotmobis. We just ask you to be patient with our efforts to improve and increase your business. We currently have 60 domains and we reserve the right to increase or decrease them. In time, you will be seen more than once. You will be seen sixty times over.
